History Of the Red Brick School
Construction on the Red Brick School began in 1916 and students began attending Fall, 1917. The school building was designed by the famous El Paso, Texas architect Henry Charles Trost and built by Robert Eugene McKee. The school sits at the terminus of Granado Street, historically, the main and commercial street of Tularosa, New Mexico.
The Red Brick School building is a rectangular 20,000 sq. ft. brick structure with a raised-stone foundation, embodying three (3) floors. The main entry is centrally located at the top of a staircase with a recessed, gabled roof which leads to the second floor. Flat concrete arches top multiple window units on the first and second floors. The hipped roof is covered with tin tiles that represents clay tiles. Decorative elements include brick-string coursing and concrete inlays at corners and brick panels.
